As the release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater approaches, fans of the series are starting to wonder: Will the remake be able to truly replace the 2004 classic?
The answer, according to both legendary Snake performer David Hayter and producer Noriaki Okamura, is inconclusive: “Yes… and no… and maybe both.”
In an interview with PC Gamer, Hayter explained that he recently revisited the original game and still considers it a “steadfast masterpiece.” “Is Delta going to replace the original? I don’t think so. I see it more as an upgrade than a replacement.”
Okamura divided the series’ audience into two categories:
– Newcomers: Those who will find Delta a favorable experience thanks to updated controls and modern enhancements.
– Veterans: Those who may prefer to return to the classic version via the Master Collection out of nostalgia or to preserve the essence of the original experience.
While Delta offers stunning graphics and modern touches, some may find that it doesn’t quite capture the spirit of the original. This is in line with the approach of series creator Hideo Kojima, who has previously emphasized that he doesn’t like to “recreate horror or tension from scratch with radical remixes,” leaving the original in its own place.
To summarize, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater does not seek to erase the memory of the classic version, but rather aims to reintroduce it to new generations with modern technologies, while the decision is ultimately up to the player to decide which version is closer to his heart.
What do you think? Will the original Snake Eater remain the timeless masterpiece, or will Delta be able to establish itself as the new iconic experience?
