Game Science concluded Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live with the surprise reveal of its new project Black Myth: Zhong Kui, which follows the huge success of Black Myth: Wukong.
The first trailer showed a short scene of two brothers hiding from a mysterious group, led by Zhong Kui riding a giant tiger. While it didn’t offer much in the way of story or gameplay details, it was enough to get fans excited, especially with the prestige the studio has garnered after the release of Wukong.
Via the official website, the developer explained that the announcement was in keeping with the “tradition of updating players on progress on August 20 of each year.” However, he emphasized that the project is still in its very early beginnings, describing its current state as “little more than a blank tome,” noting that even the story and gameplay outlines are not yet complete.
There is no approximate release date yet, with Game Science bluntly stating that “even Yocar himself (one of the main developers) has no idea.” What has been confirmed is that the game will release on PC and all major platforms at launch, with additional details to be announced as development progresses.
With this announcement, Game Science seems to be establishing itself as one of the most prominent names in the Chinese gaming industry globally, having stolen the spotlight with Wukong and now doing it again with Zhong Kui.
