Throughout its history, the LEGO series has proven to be a pioneer in Co-op gaming, and now it’s back with an innovative adventure called LEGO Voyagers, which we got first impressions of at Gamescom 2025.
Similar to A Way Out and It Takes Two, LEGO Voyagers offers a mandatory two-player-only co-op experience, with no AI or computer-controlled companion character. The game supports Friends Pass, allowing your friend to play with you even if they haven’t purchased their own copy.
The control scheme is easy and intuitive: One button to jump and another to interact with the immersive LEGO environment. Characters can interlock to build bridges, cross pits, or even transform into a giant gadget to help them overcome obstacles. These mechanics make the game a fun learning tool for kids, while Creative Director Karsten Lund’s statements confirm that the challenges will gradually increase in difficulty to suit older players as well.
The serene and beautiful design of the LEGO pieces makes the experience visually enchanting, with huge marketing potential if the game is a success. It is able to combine family fun with simple innovation that appeals to a wide range of tastes.
While the developers are keen to differentiate themselves, Voyagers’ cooperative gameplay evokes comparisons to the work of Hazelight Studios, pioneers of the genre. This is not a negative, but an indication that LEGO Voyagers could be on a successful path, especially since Hazelight’s games have sold over 30-40 million copies globally.
From the impressions, LEGO Voyagers doesn’t seem to be trying to reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a LEGO game that is traditional in its charm, visually beautiful, accessible and full of fun. It’s expected to appeal to a wide audience of cooperative gamers and families looking for a shared experience.
