Crystal Dynamics, the acclaimed developer behind the Tomb Raider series and formerly involved in the canceled Perfect Dark project, has announced a round of layoffs within its ranks.
In a statement posted on its social mediaaccounts, the studio said:
“We made the difficult decision to let a number of our talented colleagues go as a result of changing business conditions. The decision was not easy, but necessary to ensure the long-term health of the studio and our creative priorities in a rapidly changing market.
The studio also thanked those affected by the decision and emphasized its commitment to fully support them during the transition.
Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that the development of the next installment of the Tomb Raider series will not be affected by the layoffs, reassuring fans of the game who have been waiting for news of the new installment.
So far, the studio has not specified how many employees have been affected by the decision, nor has it clarified whether the cancellation of the recent Perfect Dark project played any role in the move. The press has reportedly reached out to the studio for more information.
With this decision, Crystal Dynamics joins a string of studios that have resorted to restructuring in recent times to meet the ongoing challenges in the gaming industry.
