More than a year after the Shattered Space expansion, Bethesda is still tight-lipped about the future of Starfield, leaving players who have been anticipating the game’s second expansion for months worried.
Prior to Starfield’s release in September 2023, Shattered Space, which came out in September 2024, was revealed early. But since then, Bethesda has not announced any details about the next expansion, although Todd Howard had promised to release a major expansion annually to support the game.
In June 2024, Howard confirmed that a new expansion was in development and in March 2025, the Bethesda team stated that there were “exciting things” for this year but no details.
More recently, veteran developer Tim Lamb hinted at “new story content” alongside free updates, citing improvements to space gameplay to make exploration more rewarding.
Despite these hints, there has yet to be any official announcement or presentation revealing what or when the next expansion is coming. This ambiguity has led many players to question the development process or delay it, especially with September 2025 approaching without any updates.
After Starfield stole the spotlight upon its release, its momentum quickly waned. Today, many believe that continued silence could damage players’ confidence in Bethesda’s promises, especially since supporting the game is an important test of the studio’s future strategy.
