Days after announcing that it has gone gold, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei has received a new trailer that shows for the first time the introduction of firearms as a weapon players can use in battle, ahead of its official release on October 2, 2025 on PlayStation 5.
During the new demo, firearms were shown taking out enemies in one fell swoop. But it’s not a perfect weapon in all circumstances:
– Loud noises reveal the player’s location and warn guards.
– Slow reloading, requiring enemies to be distracted or immobilized to buy time.
– However, it is an effective option for ending a quick battle or luring opponents.
Since Ghost of Yotei takes place 329 years after Tsushima, relying on the katana alone no longer makes sense. Protagonist Atsu, a mercenary seeking revenge after her family was killed by the Yotei Six, will carry a mix of traditional weapons like the Yari and Kusarigama along with new firepower.
The first installment, Ghost of Tsushima, was a huge success in 2020 with dozens of awards. So, hopes are high that the sequel will deliver an equally creative experience in terms of gameplay and cinematic presentation.
