New reports from renowned leaker billbil-kun via Dealabs reveal that a new digital version of the PlayStation 5 (code CFI-2100) will arrive in European markets on September 13, 2025.
Interestingly, the new version will retain the same €499 price tag as the current version, but with one notable change: The storage capacity has been reduced from 1TB to just 825GB.
PlayStation hardware reviews usually include minor tweaks to cooling or power consumption, but the report noted that no firm details about these changes are available yet. However, it is expected that the version will include internal improvements that are not marketed as with previous versions.
PlayStation 5 release date:
- 2020: Launch of the base version with an integrated disk drive.
- 2023: Release of the community-designated “PS5 Slim” version with a detachable drive, which made it easier for Sony to reduce production and shipping costs.
- Later: Introduction of unannounced small internal revisions to further reduce costs.
The introduction of a new version with less capacity may indicate a future plan by Sony to release another version with more storage capacity to compensate for this shortage, especially with the increasing sizes of modern games.
