Noclip has released a new documentary looking back at the history of the iconic Wolfenstein series, which began in 1981 and continues to be a staple of the shooter genre. The documentary focuses on the relaunch phase developed by MachineGames, which delivered games that captivated gamers with their intense gameplay and storytelling.
But the surprise came at the 41:16 mark of the documentary, when director Jerk Gustaffson stated that the new series was designed from the start to be a trilogy. He explained:
“It’s important for me to say this, because we’ve always looked at it as a trilogy. “From the earliest days of sketching The New Order, our plan was clear: What’s going to happen in the second part, and what’s going to happen in the third. I really hope we’re not done with Wolfenstein, we still have a story to tell.
Wolfenstein 3 has yet to be officially announced, but previous hints, such as the closing scene in Wolfenstein: Youngblood, as well as the director’s statement, suggest that the story hasn’t come to an end yet. With the studio’s latest project Indiana Jones and the Great Circle coming to an end, the time may be right for B.J. Blazkowicz to return to the scene.
This news reignites the excitement of gamers waiting for the conclusion of the trilogy, especially since it’s been almost 6 years since the last major release of the series.
