Days after Battlefield 6’s lead combat designer Matthew Nickerson stated that there is a console-only co-op mode that allows only PlayStation and Xbox players to be grouped together, EA came out to clarify the issue during a demo event for the game.
When cross-play is enabled, priority is given to filling rooms with console players (PlayStation and Xbox) and if more players are needed, the number is filled with PC players.
When cross-play is turned off, the search is limited to the same platform only, meaning that PlayStation players cannot play with Xbox players when the feature is disabled.
Nickerson’s statements were correct about how cross-play works when it’s enabled, but inaccurate about how it works when it’s disabled. What had some excited by the idea of a mode that only connects between console platforms turned out to be nonexistent for the time being.
While many players were hoping to see console-only cross-play in the future, EA has confirmed that this is not currently supported, though the door remains open to the possibility of adding it later based on community requests.
This clarification comes at a time when leaks and information about Battlefield 6 are increasing, including huge maps such as Mirak Valley, and the full list of weapons and vehicles that will be available at launch.
