The Fallout series is one of the most intense and deep RPG titles, and it seems that the next installment seeks to raise the ceiling more than ever before. In an interview with Game Informer, Emil Pagliarulo, design director at Bethesda, talked about the team’s vision for Fallout 5.
Pagliarulo emphasizes that the ambition is not a game measured in 20 or even 100 hours, but rather an experience that may reach 600 hours of play in the best conditions, and the goal, according to his speech, is not to stuff content, but to ensure that everything that is presented is new and varied with deep game systems and a world capable of surprising the player even after hundreds of hours.
This approach is in line with the identity of the series, which has always relied on rich open worlds and complex options, and with the support of the community through modifications, the actual hours of play may exceed a thousand hours for some players, as happened with the previous parts.
As of now, there is no official release date or time frame, and with the size of the ambitions, many people rule out seeing the game before the end of the current decade, while conservative estimates indicate that 2030 may be the earliest time for a teaser presentation only.
