With Star Wars Outlaws set to launch on the Switch 2 on September 4, 2025, a huge leak featuring 40 minutes of gameplay on the new platform has surfaced.
The leak came via YouTuber mataleao, who managed to get his hands on an early copy of the game. The clip, which quickly went viral, showed better performance than expected, with some followers commenting that the game looks relatively smooth, even if it doesn’t reach 60FPS at 1080p. One user wrote: “The experience looks amazing, not perfect but much better than Cyberpunk 2077 on the same machine.”
But the media wasn’t so positive. During PAX West 2025, a limited number of journalists were allowed to try the game on the Switch 2, but their impressions were less than enthusiastic. They emphasized that the performance was “rough” with the frame rate dropping below 30FPS in several scenes. Interestingly, attendees were not allowed to record any footage from the demo, making the evaluations based solely on first-hand impressions.
While the final verdict will have to await the launch version, it looks like the performance controversy may accompany Outlaws when it reaches gamers’ hands. Especially after reports revealed that Ubisoft has already canceled an early second installment of the series for not meeting internal expectations.
The game will be released on September 4 on the Switch 2, marking Ubisoft’s first major title to arrive on the new console.
