More than a decade after its release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still maintains a strong presence in the gaming industry and CD Projekt Red is apparently planning to capitalize on this success again with new additional content.
Polish analyst Mateusz Kharzanowski estimates thata new paid expansion for the game is expected to be released in May 2026 at $30 per copy and is expected to sell up to 11 million copies in one year, fueled by the game’s continued popularity and huge fan base.
The analyst explained that the budget for the development of this additional content is estimated at 52 million PLN, which is roughly equivalent to 14.5 million US dollars, a relatively moderate budget compared to large game expansions, but sufficient to provide a high-quality experience within The Witcher’s world.
Most importantly, according to Kharzanowski, this expansion will mark the beginning of the actual marketing campaign for The Witcher 4, which is likely to be released in the fourth quarter of 2027, so CD Projekt Red will have about 18 months to build momentum around the new installment of the series.
The Witcher 3 is the last major completed experience in the series to date and has achieved exceptional success with over 60 million copies sold across all platforms, making it one of the most successful RPGs in history, which is why any new additional content, even after all these years, is an important event for fans of the series and fans of the world of Geralt of Rivia.
If these predictions come true, 2026 could be a strong point of return for The Witcher, not only with a new expansion, but also as a gateway to the next phase of the series with the highly anticipated The Witcher 4.
