Arrowhead continues to work on improving Helldivers 2 both in terms of performance and content. After notable technical improvements, the team is also working on new ideas to improve gameplay, including expanding the role of vehicles in battles.
During the latest episode of A Democratic Conversation on the Helldivers 2 YouTube channel, Niklas Malmborg, the game’s design director, talked about the future of vehicles when asked about the possibility of extending the use of mechanical exosuits and confirmed that the team has plans to study expanding the overall vehicle gameplay experience.
Malmberg pointed out that Helldivers Part 1 contained a much larger number of vehicles, explaining that bringing some of them back could be a fun idea even if not all of them are brought back, and also spoke of the team’s desire to explore all possible details and angles of vehicle gameplay, including ideas such as reloading and repair, while emphasizing that these features are not yet guaranteed and may remain temporary or situational.
While not going into specific technical details, Malmberg emphasized that the team is already experimenting with these ideas and that a number of developers within the studio are excited to develop this aspect, adding that if these experiments are successful in providing an enjoyable and balanced gameplay, they will move forward with their implementation.
These statements reflect Arrowhead’s intention to deepen the variety of combat styles in Helldivers 2 and give players more tactical options while maintaining the game’s identity of cooperation and organized chaos, and until official confirmation, vehicles remain one of the most anticipated additions to the game’s community.
