Embark Studio has confirmed that ARC Raiders is using player behavior analysis as part of its matchmaking system in a move that reflects a progressive approach to improving the multiplayer experience.
This comes at a time when ARC Raiders is experiencing one of its most successful periods after becoming one of the most popular games of 2025, winning Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025, and launching its new winter update, Cold Snap.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, the game’s Technical Director Robert Sammelin explained that ARC Raiders’ matchmaking system is more complex than players think:
“Without going into too much detail, the system is quite complex. We analyze player behavior and do matchmaking based on that.
When asked about the nature of this analysis or the criteria used, Sammelin jokingly replied, “No,” preferring not to reveal further details at this time.
Over the past few months, a theory has been circulating within the ARC Raiders community that players with a calm or cooperative demeanor are grouped with similar players while more aggressive or impulsive players are placed in matches with each other.
Although Embark has not explicitly confirmed this mechanism, recent statements have partially validated this hypothesis, noting that player behavior is not the only factor influencing matchmaking.
The details of this system are still unclear, whether it includes fighting style, withdrawal rate from matches, team cooperation, or negative behaviors, but it is clear that ARC Raiders seeks to provide a more balanced and fair experience through an intelligent matchmaking system that goes beyond mere numbers and levels.
This revelation comes in a series of positive steps from Embark, as the team recently asked the community to provide critical feedback on the game’s maps in an effort to improve the experience based on the feedback of the players themselves.
