It seems that the huge success of Helldivers 2 was just the beginning of a new phase for Arrowhead, as the team confirmed via an official recruitment announcement on its website that it has begun work on an all-new cooperative action game project from an original title.
According to the announcement, the studio is looking for a lead systems designer to help lay the groundwork for the upcoming game. The description reads:
We’re looking for a talented systems designer to join our design department and help shape the foundation of a new, as-yet-unannounced project. You will be at the center of building and fine-tuning the core systems, progression mechanics, and combat characteristic of the Arrowhead games.
While details about the game are still limited, it has been hinted that it will be built on the Unreal Engine and will offer an entirely new collaborative experience unrelated to the studio’s previous titles.
What is also certain is that the new project will not be in partnership with Sony, as CEO Shams Jorjani explained in previous statements that the upcoming game will be 100% funded by the studio itself without any external support.
This approach seems consistent with Jorjani’s statements last September, when he emphasized that the team’s goal is to make Helldivers 2 a long-term game with no intention of releasing a third part in the near future, but rather to continue expanding and updating it continuously.
Arrowhead is paving the way for a new chapter in its journey with a project that promises a new cooperative action experience with a different identity than Helldivers and reflects the studio’s ambition to build a fully independent title that cements its place among the most prominent developers of modern games.
