After the massive success of Helldivers 2 in 2024 and 2025 and the continued talk about it until today, whether through new updates or statements about a possible version on Switch 2, it seems that all eyes are on Arrowhead’s next project, and despite the team’s reticence, we finally got the first clear indication of the nature of the new game.
In a new interview with GamesRadar+, Johan Pilestedt, the studio’s former Creative Director and CEO, talked about the current state of development, stating that they are in his most favorite phase of making games.
This phase involves assembling a new team, breaking down barriers between developers, and defining the project’s identity
The next game will carry on the legacy of Helldivers and the most important statement came when Billestedt emphasized that the new game will not be too far removed from Helldivers, explaining:
“We want to continue the legacy we’ve created… The new game won’t be anything too far removed from Helldivers. Players will be able to recognize the DNA immediately.
This means that the new project will retain key elements that fans love, such as team cooperation, the distinctive action style, the satirical and violent nature of the series, and perhaps a similar progression system or dynamic mission design.
The team did not reveal whether the game will be a new installment of Helldivers, a different title with the same spirit, or something in between
Despite the lack of information on gameplay, release date, and supported platforms, Arrowhead’s statements are very reassuring for Helldivers fans, especially after the series has become one of the most popular co-op games in recent years.
The studio recently reported that the Xbox version of Helldivers 2 helped increase sales and activity on PlayStation 5 and PC, bolstering Arrowhead’s confidence in expanding its player base for future projects.
