Ubisoft has undergone a major management shakeup with the departure of Marc-Alexis Côté, the series’ vice president and executive producer and a key figure in building the Assassin’s Creed identity over the past two decades.
According to a report published by IGN, Côté’s departure was announced in an internal letter sent to company employees by the CEOs of the new studio Vantage Studios, Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, where they explained that Côté was nominated for a leadership position at Vantage Studios, the branch created by Ubisoft in cooperation with Tencent, but he declined the offer due to a difference in visions and priorities regarding the future of the studio.
The two leaders of Vantage Studios wrote in the memo:
“We are disappointed with his decision, but he had his own expectations regarding the future of the studio and its creative direction.
In an official statement to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft said:
“Following the restructuring announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has decided to take a new path outside the company. We are sad to see him go, but are confident that our talented teams will maintain the strong legacy he helped build.”
The spokesperson added:
“We are deeply grateful to Mark-Alexis for his tremendous influence over the years, especially in shaping the identity of the Assassin’s Creed series. His leadership, creativity and dedication have left a lasting imprint on our teams and players.
Côté joined Ubisoft in 2005 as a software engineer, quickly rising through the ranks to become director and executive producer of some of the series’ most popular installments, overseeing the development of Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, as well as helping to shape the overall strategy of the series since 2022.

His departure comes at a time when Ubisoft is expanding its international collaborations and launching new studios, but his departure is a major loss for the brand he helped establish as one of the world’s most recognizable game series.
Will Côté’s absence affect the direction of the next Assassin’s Creed, especially after the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the company’s willingness to expand into new projects?
