Atari has made an interesting move by acquiring the intellectual property rights to five classic games from Ubisoft’s library, confirming its intention to re-release them on modern platforms with plans to expand them and add new content.
The five games are:
Cold Fear
A survival horror game developed by Darkworks, in which the player takes on the role of a coast guard facing a zombified crew aboard a Russian fishing vessel.
Child of Eden
A rhythm-based shooter from Tetsuya Mizuguchi, creator of Rez, Lumines, and Tetris Effect, known for its use of motion control.
I Am Alive
A survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world where the protagonist tries to find his family in a devastated city.
Grow Home and Grow Up
two platform adventures in which the player controls B.U.D., a robot who climbs a giant beanstalk to save his planet.
Wade Rosen, CEO of Atari, said:
“These games are timeless not only for their gameplay, but for the unique emotions and experiences they gave us. We’re excited to relaunch them and explore ways to expand them.
Deborah Papiernik, Vice President of New Business at Ubisoft, explained:
“Millions of gamers have lived these experiences, and this move will allow them to relive their memories, while at the same time giving new audiences the chance to discover them for the first time
With this move, Atari reaffirms its commitment to expanding its library with games that hold a special place in gamers’ hearts, with a clear vision to reintroduce them with a new spirit that matches the expectations of the current generation.
