Christian Buhl, technical director of Battlefield 6, revealed that a significant percentage of players were able to run the game on minimum-spec hardware, and some even ran the game on systems below the stated minimum.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Buhl explained that Battlefield Studios and EA prioritized older, low-performance hardware during development. The technical design of the maps and performance systems are carefully tuned to provide a smooth experience, whether the player plays on Ultra or Minimum settings.
Buhl emphasized that minimum specs were one of the most important focuses for the team, not only from a technical standpoint, but also from a business standpoint:
“It’s very important that we make the game available to as many players as possible. So we tested it on a wide range of hardware, above and below the minimum and recommended specifications, to see what we could and should achieve to ensure a wider audience on PC.
As for the size of this group of players, Pohl explained that a large percentage played Battlefield 6 on the minimum or below, but without revealing an exact number, only describing it as a large number indeed.
This trend demonstrates EA’s desire to appeal to the widest possible range of gamers, even those who don’t have the latest hardware.
