Gearbox has officially announced the postponement of the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, which was scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025, and the decision came just a few days before the expected launch date, causing disappointment among the game’s fans on the new platform.
According to the official statement on the Borderlands account on the X platform, the Switch 2 version was not up to the required quality standards and needed more time for development and refinement, and the work to add the cross-platform saving feature was one of the factors that prompted the decision.
All digital pre-orders for the game on the eShop will be automatically canceled by September 26 and players who wish to cancel their orders now can do so manually via the store.
Although Borderlands 4 has already been released on other platforms to great acclaim, numerous technical issues, especially on the PC version, have drawn criticism from players, and fans hope that this delay will lead to the release of a more stable and quality version on Switch 2.
No new release date has been set yet, but the Gearbox team has confirmed that they will be sharing an update on the situation soon, noting that player feedback remains very important to them at this point.
