PlayStation 5 users playing Borderlands 4 are experiencing an annoying performance issue where the frame rate gradually drops the longer the session goes on, making some players’ experience unstable, especially in long sessions.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford explained in his statements via IGN that the temporary solution is to close the game and restart it again to restore performance stability, and although this step may help, it is not the ideal solution that players are waiting for, which prompted the debate between those who appreciate the company’s honesty and transparency and those who believe that the issue should not appear at all in a game of this size.
There were also complaints about the lack of a field of view adjustment option on PS5 and Xbox. Pitchford explained that this decision was deliberate to avoid any competitive advantage between players, and while the justification is valid in terms of balance, this restriction may reduce the freedom of the experience, especially for players who are used to customizing settings as in the PC version.
Although Borderlands 4 has received high reviews from critics and widespread interest from the public, the current performance issues are overshadowing the overall impression. It’s clear that Gearbox needs to move quickly to release urgent updates that address these issues, rather than settling for temporary fixes.
Until the anticipated updates arrive, players can only follow Pitchford’s advice and follow the official news to see when the fixes will be available.
