At Gamescom 2025, Bungie announced the departure of veteran CEO Pete Parsons, who joined the studio in 2003 and has been one of its most recognizable faces for the past two decades.
During his career, Parsons co-developed massive titles like Halo 2 and led the launch of Destiny, then became CEO in 2016, helping to launch Destiny 2 and overseeing PlayStation’s acquisition of the company in 2022.
In his farewell letter, he said: ” After more than two decades of working to build this amazing studio, I have decided to pass the torch. It has been the honor of my life to co-create these worlds and to work with the creative minds at Bungie.
He was succeeded by Justin Truman, who joined Bungie in 2010 to work on Halo: Reach as an engineer and later became Director of Gameplay Experience for Destiny 2, where he played a prominent role in fostering the game’s community.
In his first statement as CEO, Truman emphasized his commitment to supporting the team and continuing the development of Destiny and Marathon
Despite the leadership change, the company has emphasized that this transition will not affect current development plans. Destiny 2 remains active with new expansions, while Marathon continues its march toward release before the end of the fiscal year, despite some early hurdles.
Parsons’ departure marks the end of an important era for Bungie, but with Truman at the helm, the company seems poised to continue building the future of its iconic worlds.
