After months of fan theories circulating online, Capcom has confirmed that its upcoming game Pragmata is neither part of the Mega Man series nor an attempt to revive it.
The theories began when players noticed similarities between the design of Pragmata’s robot companion Diana and Mega Man, as well as common elements such as fighting against virus-infected machines on a moon base.
But in an interview with VGC, producer Naoto Aoyama made it abundantly clear:
Pragmata is not a Mega Man game, but an all-new title from Capcom.
He added with a smile that he had already worked on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, expressing his excitement to see Mega Man fans excited about the new game.
Despite the denial, Capcom did not forget to mention that the Mega Man series still holds a special place, emphasizing that they are always looking at ways to revive it. The series’ last major release was Mega Man 11 in 2018, after an 8-year hiatus since Mega Man 10.
Pragmata was first announced in June 2020, as a Capcom original sci-fi game, a rarity for a company best known for titles like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter. Despite repeated delays, the game is scheduled for release in 2026.
