With the great success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 during 2025, the game received wide acclaim for its innovative combat system and the performances of the cast, and one of its most notable achievements was the nomination of three of its actors for the Best Performance Award at The Game Awards: Ben Starr, Jennifer English and Charlie Cox, and the latter made a remarkable statement that reveals a humble side to him.
During the La Conve/Animex event in Mexico, the Daredevil star was asked about his nomination for his portrayal of Gustav in the game, and despite his joy at the nomination, Cox emphasized that he does not give full credit to himself, but to French actor Maxence Cazorla, who performed the full animation of the character and the original French performance and Esquie in the French and English versions
Cox said:
“I’m very happy with this nomination… but I have to say that Maxence Cazorla did the bulk of the performance. What I did was just part of the process and the physicality of the character is entirely his.
Despite his modesty, there is no denying that Cox’s vocal performance was powerful and moving, especially since Gustav’s character plays a pivotal role in the story, making the nomination logical and expected, but his competition is not easy as he faces such notable nominees as Konatsu Kato:
- Konatsu Kato – Silent Hill f
- Troy Baker – Indiana Jones and the Golden Circle
- Erika Iishi – Ghost of Yotei
Along with fellow recent Golden Joystick Award winners Jennifer English and Ben Starr, the results will be decided on December 11, 2025.
