Embark Studio has released a major new update for ARC Raiders called Cold Snap, an update that significantly reshaped the gameplay experience both in terms of atmosphere and internal systems and received wide positive feedback from players.
The update added a comprehensive snow cover to the maps, a new seasonal event called Flickering Flames, and a host of quality of life improvements that addressed a number of issues that players had complained about during the past period.
But the most notable change came at the level of the in-game economy, as Embark announced the implementation of a soft cap on Cred, the currency used to unlock seasonal Raider Decks.
As the new season kicked off on December 26, the developers noticed that a large number of players had accumulated thousands of Cred points by completing Feats, which would have allowed them to unlock all new Raider Deck content as soon as it was released, which goes against the game’s philosophy of gradual progression.
As a result, the maximum amount of Cred has been capped at 800 points, and players will only be able to earn more currency after reaching this limit after spending a portion of their Cred.
The Embark studio team explained in an official statement:
“We decided to implement this limit so players won’t be able to fully unlock new Raider Decks as soon as they are released. We believe that these cards are designed to be a fun progression experience while playing and accumulating large amounts of Cred undermines that goal.
The team emphasized that Credits collected before the new system is implemented will not be reduced, with the cap going into effect at the start of next season.
With this update, Embark seeks to enhance the balance between progression and seasonal content and maintain the continuity of the challenge without harming existing players, a move that many have deemed necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of the ARC Raiders experience.
