As the release of Battlefield 6 Season 1 nears, the player community has been busy discussing a new blue housing called Wicked Grin that recently appeared in the upcoming update content.
Believed to be part of a Halloween event, the new residence features an eye-catching blue design and one of the least realistic looks among the residences previewed so far. This design was enough to ignite a wave of controversy on social media as many fans of the series considered it the first point of descent into exaggeration and fantasy in a game that has always been characterized by its serious military nature.
One player on Reddit wrote angrily:
“Man, this looks so stupid.
While another wondered:
Is it so hard to just get normal military suits? No one is going to use this crap.
Others tried to defend the design, saying that the controversy is overblown and that the image that went viral online was misleadingly cherry-picked, emphasizing that most of the housing is still realistic and true to the game’s military theme.
DICE had confirmed before the launch of the game that Battlefield 6 would be more realistic than the previous parts, but some believe that the addition of such a residence contradicts those promises, especially since the official launch has been less than two weeks ago. On the other hand, some players believe that the Wicked Grin residence remains realistic compared to what happens in Call of Duty, which saw unfamiliar collaborations such as Nicki Minaj, Beavis & Butthead, and Homelander, as one user wrote:
“If this is the worst they have, it still makes more sense than CoD’s crazy skins.
Battlefield 6 is one of the most successful releases in the series in terms of performance and content, but this controversy reflects the sensitivity of the game’s community to any change to its original identity.
Is Wicked Grin just a temporary cosmetic experiment or the beginning of Battlefield’s shift to a more Call of Duty-esque visual style?
