Crystal Dynamics has announced a new wave of layoffs involving about 30 employees across various departments in a statement posted on LinkedIn, marking the studio’s third round of layoffs in 2025.
The company’s statement reads:
Today we made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure the Crystal Dynamics teams and studios and as a result we are saying goodbye to approximately 30 members of our various teams as we reorganize the company to keep pace with the next generation of our projects.
The company emphasized that it will provide full support to the affected employees, noting that it appreciates their significant contributions over the past years.
In March 2025, the studio witnessed 17 layoffs, August 2025 and a second wave after the cancellation of the Perfect Dark project, and November 2025 a new layoff of nearly 30 employees, and this comes in light of major challenges that the studio has been going through since the failure of Marvel’s Avengers game commercially and critically in 2020, in addition to the cancellation of the Perfect Dark project that was counted on to restore the team’s successes.
Despite the massive layoffs, Crystal Dynamics confirmed that work on the Tomb Raider sequel continues unaffected, explaining that the goal of the restructuring is to “optimize development resources and ensure the quality of upcoming projects.”
The gaming industry is having a tough year, with major studios closing their doors and huge projects canceled in 2024 and 2025, with a marked rise in layoffs and financial constraints facing companies.
