After years of controversy and technical difficulties, CD Projekt Red announced in its latest financial report that Cyberpunk 2077 has officially surpassed the 35 million copies sold as of November 26, 2025, including digital and physical copies as well as sales of the Ultimate Edition distributed in 2023.
This new milestone comes at a time when talk about Part 2 of the series is escalating, especially after Keanu Reeves himself asked to contact the studio to participate in it, as well as indications from job listings that a multiplayer mode is in development, but today the light returns to Part 1, which was able to achieve what seemed impossible at the time of its launch.
When Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020, the state of the game on home consoles was so disastrous that Sony pulled it from the PlayStation Store and CD Projekt Red offered full refunds to all players, the game seemed destined to end as one of the biggest failures of the generation.
But the studio’s journey of rebuilding was different. Through 3 years of continuous updates, the game gradually evolved into the 2.0 update and the addition of Phantom Liberty, which regained the trust of players and achieved widespread critical acclaim.
Today, reaching 35 million copies sold is a rare success story in the industry, with a game that started under the worst circumstances and ended up as one of the most influential experiences in AAA.
CD Projekt Red has indicated that the Cyberpunk 2 development team in Boston continues to expand, with the studio aiming to reach 300 developers by 2027. This indicates that Cyberpunk 2 plans are on track and that the company wants to build a massive project that will compete with the biggest titles of the next generation.
Meanwhile, the original game continues to receive improvements, most recently the 2.31 update that added AutoDrive, updates to the visuals, and the official announcement of Season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
