Former Rockstar co-founder Dan Hauser continues his media tour to promote his new book, A Better Paradise, and amid questions about his career and future projects, he made important statements related to artificial intelligence and its use in games, especially in his new project within Absurd Ventures.
During an appearance on Sunday Brunch, Hauser revealed that his new book is connected to the world of the game his team is currently working on, explaining that development began about a year and a half ago and that the project will take “several more years” to complete, as the game is set in the same world as the novel but does not completely adapt its story but rather builds on it in a separate direction.
When asked about his use of AI, Hauser is remarkably candid, admitting to using the technology but emphasizing that it doesn’t live up to the idealized image marketed by big companies:
“We’re experimenting with AI, but the reality is that it’s not as useful as some companies want to believe. It doesn’t solve everything.
He adds that progress in AI is unbalanced, with AI excelling at certain tasks but “completely failing” in other areas, making it unrealistic to fully rely on it at the moment.
When it comes to the speed of AI development, Hauser offers a more balanced view:
Yes, there is rapid progress in certain areas, but we need technologies that cover a wide range of tasks. AI is good at some, but it’s not good at others.
He ended his talk by criticizing the idea that AI is the answer to everything, explaining that the concept has become a “generic term for everything futuristic” without actually living up to the stated expectations.
Hauser’s remarks confirm that AI will be a part of the gaming industry but will not replace human creativity or drive development on its own. This vision may reflect a more realistic trend in the industry away from the exaggerated ambitions and promises that are so prevalent today.
