Following the announcement of a movie adaptation of Death Stranding in 2022, during the Beyond the Strand presentation we got new details about the upcoming project.
The film is produced by A24 and directed by Michael Sarnoski, known for A Quiet Place: Day One. Speaking about the project, Sarnoski emphasized that the film will not be a direct retelling of the events of the 2019 game, but will present an entirely new story within the game’s world.
According to the director, the movie will feature original characters and a different script, while maintaining the atmosphere of the Death Stranding universe, which is known for its mysterious and philosophical atmosphere. Details are still being kept under wraps, but it’s clear that the project aims to be a standalone cinematic experience.
Although the game is not a movie, it already had cinematic elements thanks to its visual quality and the performance of its stellar cast led by Norman Reedus alongside names like Lea Seydoux, Mads Mikkelson, and Troy Baker, which helped cement the series’ reputation as one of the most unique artistic experiences in gaming.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was released last June to widespread acclaim and is considered a major awards contender by the end of the year, and the film looks to continue the trend by expanding the world to the big screen with a different twist that reflects A24’s vision.
