Facepunch COO Alistair MacFarlane sparked controversy after he accused the Delta Force development team of using one of Rust’s art assets without permission, following the release of a new trailer for the Delta Force season that featured a model of a C4 canister that looked exactly the same as the one used in Rust.
McFarlane posted an image from the new trailer alongside an image from Rust, confirming that the stolen asset was “made entirely in-house,” mentioning the name of the artist who created it, and explaining that the resemblance was not a coincidence but a direct match.
Hours after the accusation was published, McFarlane confirmed that the TiMi Studio Group team officially contacted him and apologized, adding that “the matter has been resolved.” However, this did not stop the controversy as some followers saw that the theft was not limited to the C4 pack and started comparing other elements in the video with different games, although some of them turned out to be incorrect.
The trailer that caused the uproar was prepared to announce the new season of Delta Force, and although the direction of the two games is very different, asset theft is one of the biggest red lines in the industry, especially among major commercial projects.
Players on social media considered the team’s apology insufficient and demanded stronger measures to ensure that the matter is not repeated, while others felt that a quick resolution between the two studios is enough to turn the page.
