Recently, a new wave of leaks has spread indicating that Bungie has already started working on Destiny 3, and although it is not the first time that hints about the future of the series appear, the source of the leak this time is one of the trusted names in the Destiny community.
The information came via the well-known leaker Colony Deaks on the X platform, who has previously revealed accurate details related to Destiny and Marathon in the past years, and in his recent post he said:
Yes, Destiny 3 is in a very early development stage … We have been keeping this information for weeks, but since some people started talking about it, we decided to confirm it.
The leaker noted that the team will not share more details now, especially since the project is still in its very early stages, explaining that development at this stage may not go beyond the idea-building stage or writing the basic story lines.
Although the current media focus is on the upcoming Marathon game scheduled for release in 2026, it seems that Bungie is planning to bring the Destiny series back to the forefront and possibly capitalize on the capabilities of the entire new generation 8 years after Destiny 2.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from Bungie, which is normal given the sensitivity of early development and the long production cycle of the series’ games.
According to the leaker, additional details will be revealed “in the coming months,” but the reality suggests that the launch of Destiny 3 “if it does indeed exist” will not happen soon and possibly after Marathon.
Destiny’s return with an all-new version could be an important step in building a broader experience, especially after the recent decline in the popularity of Part 2 and the changing trends of game engines and multiplayer styles.
