After Helldivers 2 took a huge leap in sales and players following its release on Xbox, the question of what platform might get the game next, especially the Switch 2, which is expected to launch next year, has been raised.
In a new interview on YouTube’s Game Business Show, journalist Christopher Dring jokingly asked a question about waiting for a Switch 2 version of Helldivers 2, and Arrowhead’s CEO had an interesting response:
“We’ll see, we’ll see… that’s a few degrees above my pay grade.
While it’s not a confirmation, it’s far from a denial, especially since Arrowhead has seen firsthand the huge benefits of the Xbox version, which sold more than the PS5 version within the first 6 days of its release on the platform.
The success of the game on Xbox created an important precedent, but success on Switch 2 will depend on several factors, including the capabilities of the new device, whether it can run the game without major compromises, and the size of the game, which Arrowhead is currently working to reduce it and improve performance, as the team is currently working to fix technical issues and improve loading times, and the studio is now busy developing the game from the inside, which may delay any decision regarding additional platform versions.
Georgiani also hinted that the decision to port the game to Switch 2 is not only up to Arrowhead, but also about publisher Sony, Nintendo’s policies, and the commercial feasibility of porting a huge multiplayer-based game to a home portable platform, which makes any official announcement something that needs a lot of coordination.
