Techland has officially unveiled the massive 1.5 update for Dying Light: The Beast, an update that aims to raise the level of challenge like never before, targeting veteran players looking for a brutal survival experience in a post-apocalyptic world.
The main pillar of this update is the addition of an entirely new difficulty level called Nightmare Experience, which reshapes the gameplay by making enemies, whether human or infected, more powerful, intelligent and aggressive with a higher response speed to the player’s movements and the use of advanced senses to track him, even daytime is no longer safe as some dark areas now contain dangerous enemies in broad daylight.
One of the most prominent additions to the update is the introduction of a terrifying new enemy known as Alpha Volatile, which Techland describes as the most dangerous and intelligent infected in the history of the Dying Light series, this enemy is characterized by its ability to follow the player’s scent and ignore the effect of the ultraviolet rays from the flashlight and can chase the player across the entire Castor Woods map until the player reaches a safe area or manages to eliminate him.
The presence of Alpha Volatile forces a more cautious and planned play style, especially during the night when escape or confrontation becomes a fateful decision that may or may not determine the player’s survival.
In addition to the new difficulty, the update added a host of survival mechanics that make resources more important than ever before. A hunger system was introduced that directly affects stamina, health regeneration, and combat efficiency, and the longer a player ignores hunger, the more penalties they incur.
The flashlight also gradually depletes its power as the light begins to dim and flicker as the battery runs low, forcing players to search for alternatives or craft new batteries to survive in the dark.
Despite the harshness of the new challenges, Techland emphasized that passing the game’s toughest content will reward players with exclusive items including cosmetic items, spells, a unique costume, and a new look for vehicles.
The Call of the Beast challenge series is still ongoing, with the next round kicking off today and continuing to progress towards the final legendary reward for persistent players.
Techland recently confirmed that the development of Dying Light 2: Stay Human is back on track with plans to release major updates in the near future.
The 1.5 update is a clear step towards delivering a more tense and realistic experience in the Dying Light universe, aimed primarily at those looking for maximum challenge and survival.
