According to a new report, Eidos Montreal participated in the development of the OD game, the new project of director Hideo Kojima, for nearly a full year before the participation abruptly stopped at the request of Kojima Productions. According to informed sources, work on the project, which was known internally as P21, continued within the Eidos studio during 2023 with the participation of about 20 developers before ending the cooperation.
According to the sources, the end of the partnership came after a direct request from the Kojima team to transfer the participating developers to Japan and sever the operational relationship with Eidos Montreal, which led to the cessation of work on the project within the Canadian studio.
The OD project, which was first named Overdose, was subjected to a huge leak in November 2022 when gameplay footage appeared on a YouTube background thanks to the well-known leaker The Snitch and showed the appearance of the character Mama from Death Stranding, which increased speculation about the nature of the new project.
Later, Kojima officially announced the game during The Game Awards 2023 with director Jordan Peele, emphasizing that the game will be an experience that some will love and others will hate, and in September 2025, a new teaser trailer titled Knock was released, adding to the mystery and interest of the project.
Despite the media momentum, the game has faced several setbacks since its announcement, the SAG-AFTRA video game strike between 2024 and 2025 delayed the filming process until 2026 before another shock came in November 2025 with the death of German actor Udo Kier, one of the most prominent participants in the work, at the age of 81, and Kojima expressed his great sadness in a statement published on the X platform, emphasizing Kier’s status as a true icon that will not be repeated.
At the moment there is no official information about the game’s release date, but it is certain that it will be released under the Xbox Game Studios imprint, a move that is highly anticipated by the gaming industry due to Kojima’s history of delivering unique experimental experiences.
