FromSoftware announced via the official Elden Ring account on Xbox One that the release of the Tarnished Edition for the Switch 2 has been delayed to 2026 after being scheduled for release this year.
The decision came after criticism of the demo at Gamescom 2025, where players noticed a sharp drop in frame rate, sometimes reaching 15 frames per second even while performing simple tasks, while performance dropped even more when moving to the open world.
FromSoftware’s official statement:
While the development team continues to work faithfully towards Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, we have decided to delay the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance optimization. We apologize to players who have been looking forward to the experience and thank them for their patience and support.”
Most gamers believe that the decision is right and logical, especially after the beta version showed noticeable technical weaknesses that could damage the game’s reputation on the Switch 2 if it is released without optimization, and the delay is expected to be used to improve rendering techniques, adjust the frame rate, and adapt the game to the capabilities of the new hybrid device.
The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and the Nightreign expansion set sales records earlier this year, and director Alex Garland reportedly wrote a 160-page pitch for the upcoming Elden Ring movie.
