Fairgames was first announced in 2024 by Haven under the PlayStation umbrella as part of an ambitious plan to enter the service gaming space. Since then, however, the game has failed to gain momentum, despite Sony’s attempts to revitalize it with surveys, a delayed release date from 2025 to 2026, and even a name change from Fairgame$ to Fairgames.
The challenges increased after the departure of Jade Raymond, the studio’s former founder, which opened the door to speculation about the weakness of the project, especially with leaks that spoke of a “lackluster” reception of the early version within the company.
The biggest surprise came from veteran analyst Michael Pachter on his Pachter Factor program, where he said that the game was indeed canceled, linking it to Sony’s strategy of forcing live service games on its studios, which he believes led to the failure of other projects such as Concord and The Last of Us Online.
Although Pachter is not an official source, his long experience gives his statements weight, especially since they are consistent with previous information. On the other hand, Sony’s CFO confirmed that the company is still investing in this type of project, citing the success of titles such as Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2 in generating stable revenues, even though other projects such as Concord and Marathon have been canceled or postponed.
Until there is an official statement from Sony or Haven Games, this news remains a strong rumor, but it certainly raises concerns about the future of the game and PlayStation’s attempts to enter the service gaming market aggressively.
