In a big move for fans of the Far Cry series, FX has revealed that it has begun production on a TV series based on the popular shooter games, marking the first major television adaptation of the world known for its chaos, open worlds, and charismatic antagonists.
Variety confirmed that the series will be developed by Noah Hawley, creator of such notable works as Fargo and Alien: Earth, along with actor and producer Rob Mac from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who will also co-star in Season 1, this collaboration puts the project in the hands of a team that is highly experienced in blending black drama, action, and multi-layered stories.
As with the Far Cry games, the series will be anthologized, meaning that each season will introduce an entirely new story and characters while maintaining the core essence of the series: Isolated worlds, power struggles, and human evil created by humans before nature.
The series will be available on Hulu in the U.S. and globally on Disney+.
Rob Mack expressed his excitement, saying:
“Working alongside Noah Hawley is a dream come true. Ubisoft has been very generous in handing us one of the most iconic game worlds and with the support of FX we are ready to create something special.
Noah Hawley said:
“What I love most about the Far Cry series is that it’s as inherently anthological as Fargo. Each season is an opportunity to create a new story that asks questions about human nature through a messy and complex lens.
While FX has yet to reveal a premiere date or full cast, the casting of this duo signals an ambitious direction that combines the style of Fargo with the scale of production required by the Far Cry games. The project is expected to appeal to both gaming and drama fans, as the series is known for its strong storylines and exceptional characters.
