Since its release in October 2025, Ghost of Yotei has proven to be one of the most notable games of the year, combining a distinctive samurai style with the spirit of revenge in an artistic and emotional style. With the great success of the game on PlayStation 5, questions began to swirl about the possibility of additional content like its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima.
In a new interview with Game Informer, co-director Jason Connell and lead writer Ian Miles talked about the future of the game and the possibility of a new expansion.
Connell said in the interview:
“We’re at a point right now where we’re monitoring player engagement and seeing what touches them in the story, and what they want to know more about Atsu’s character.
He went on to explain that the team is approaching audience feedback the same way it did with Ghost of Tsushima, which later received the Iki Island expansion in 2021.
“It’s like we were asking ourselves at the time: How can we develop the character further? People wanted to know more about Jin’s father, so we took advantage of that to expand the story. Now we get a similar opportunity to listen to millions and find out what resonated with them, and what may not have been explained enough.
Connell emphasized that the development team loves Atsu and sees her as a strong heroine worthy of further exploration, but the final decision will depend on whether or not the addition serves the narrative and fits with Sucker Punch’s vision.
While the team considers Atsu’s current storyline to be dramatically complete, the developers have not ruled out the possibility of her returning in new content in the future, especially with the game’s huge success and its place among the top 2025 releases alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

With great commercial and critical success, it looks like Ghost of Yotei could pave the way for an entirely new series for Sucker Punch or at least an additional narrative experience that takes us back to the era of Edo and Atsu’s adventures.
