It’s been more than a decade since the last major installment in the Dead Space series, and creator Glen Schofield still refuses to leave the alien horror genre behind. In a new interview with IGN, Schofield expressed his strong desire to return to develop Dead Space 4, emphasizing that he has ideas ready to revive the series.
Schofield said in the interview:
I have several ideas ready and one of them is Dead Space 4 and with EA’s recent acquisition I think there is a real opportunity now, I have already started making contacts.
This statement comes almost a year after he admitted that EA previously rejected Dead Space 4 despite his attempts to convince them that he was able to save tens of millions in development cost.
Schofield suggests that EA’s $55 billion acquisition could be a game changer, saying:
“I’m now more optimistic that maybe the new entity that owns EA will buy the rights to Dead Space and allow it to be resurrected.
The veteran director still seems to be attached to the Necromorphs universe he first introduced in 2008, arguing that sci-fi horror still has a lot of untapped potential.
While EA Motive’s Dead Space remake in January 2023 was a critical success, reports indicate that sales fell short of expectations, freezing any plans for a Dead Space 2 remake or an entire sequel.
However, fans of the series are still hoping to see a true return to the title that made its mark in the history of horror and sci-fi games.
If Schofield’s vision is realized, we may get an anticipated return to the series after more than 12 years of absence, but the road is still uncertain, and with EA’s change in ownership, a new page may be turned for one of the most highly demanded series.
Would you like to see Dead Space 4, or would you prefer the Dead Space 2 remake first?
