Rumors that GTA 6 could be coming to the Switch 2 have returned with a vengeance over the past few hours, following a new social media post from a well-known Nintendo leaker account and another prominent leaker’s confirmation that Rockstar is actually testing on the console.
Noted leaker Nash Weedle, who has a good track record when it comes to Nintendo projects, posted a bold statement:
I can confirm that GTA 6 for Switch 2 is in the works… the delay has nothing to do with this version, but it’s not a launch game.
This statement opened the door to a new wave of speculation as Nintendo enters its new generation with a vengeance after the success of the original Switch.
Reliable leaker NateTheHate entered the discussion and confirmed:
I said earlier that Rockstar was testing the portability of the game to the Switch 2… but tests don’t always mean an actual release.
It seems that Rockstar is indeed trying to see if the console is capable of running the game even at a lower quality.
According to analysts, the game could work on the Switch 2 but with huge compromises in resolution, graphic quality, FPS, and open-world density
The Switch 2 will nowhere near the performance of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, but may offer a “watered down” version, as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 did when running on less powerful hardware.
The GTA series has previously appeared on Nintendo platforms via GTA Chinatown Wars and GTA Trilogy Remaster, but GTA 6 will undoubtedly be the biggest game to hit the Nintendo platform in its history if it is indeed released.
