In a major surprise for fans of the series, Halo Studios officially confirmed during the Halo World Championships that a Halo: Combat Evolved remake is currently in development under the new name Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Released in 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved was a cornerstone of the Xbox platform’s success as it was the flagship launch title for Microsoft’s first console and ushered in a new era of first-person shooters, but now the game is getting a complete redevelopment for the modern console generation.
Details of the new version:
- Halo: Campaign Evolved
- Released in 2026
- Available in single-player only with no multiplayer
- Available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 – the first time Halo is coming to Sony’s platform!
The move comes after months of leaks that talked about the existence of a remake of the original game in development since last year, and Halo Studios confirmed that the project aims to reintroduce the classic experience with an all-new visual style while maintaining the essence of the original story that captured the hearts of players more than two decades ago.
So far, no additional details about gameplay or story changes have been revealed, but the release is expected to carry huge technical updates that include graphics, lighting, and artificial intelligence.
