After the flurry of excitement sparked by the initial claim that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could be released in 2026, the facts have started to become clearer over the past few days. According to new statements from several credible sources, Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated title will not be released that year and will not be present at The Game Awards 2025.
During an appearance on a podcast with Dan Allen Gaming, former journalist Colin Moriarty talked about the game and said that he “expects” the possibility of its release in 2026 based on the recruitment processes and information he heard, but these statements were spread as confirmed information and not a personal prediction.
After the news spread, a number of prominent insiders moved to clarify the picture, with Jason Schreyer writing to confirm:
I can confirm that Intergalactic will not be released in 2026.
Jeff Grubb added via Xbox that the game will not appear at The Game Awards this year, while Moriarty himself clarified on social media that his words were taken out of context and that he was merely offering a personal opinion.
So far, neither Sony nor Naughty Dog has provided any official launch window, and director Neil Druckmann has previously stated that he is unable to say when the game will appear again, which reinforces the idea that the project is still in the distant stages of development.
Since its unveiling at The Game Awards 2024, Intergalactic has turned heads with its unique art style and space-fantasy theme different from Naughty Dog’s previous works, and with the studio’s strong track record in quality and production, the project is expected to take its time to ensure that it delivers an experience that lives up to players’ expectations.
