New reports from Polish website PPE indicate that Sony is working on launching a new version of the PlayStation 5 joystick called DualSense V3 in November in conjunction with the release of the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro.
According to leaks, the DualSense V3 will come with a removable battery for the first time in PlayStation history, a move that will allow gamers to quickly replace the battery when it runs out instead of always relying on cable charging while playing.
For more than two decades, PlayStation sticks have relied on non-replaceable internal batteries, while Microsoft has continued to offer removable batteries for Xbox sticks, much to the derision of PlayStation fans in recent years.
Some see this move as a step backwards after years of relying on built-in batteries, while others see it as a practical leap that increases the lifespan and flexibility of the stick, especially for fans of long gaming sessions.
If the rumor comes true, we could see the emergence of official or third-party battery packs dedicated to DualSense, giving gamers more freedom and solving one of the most common issues they face: suddenly stopping gameplay due to running out of charge.
While it’s still in the realm of leaks for now, will Sony succeed in convincing its fans to adopt the same approach they’ve always scoffed at when it comes to the Xbox stick?
