Renowned director Hideo Kojima recently spoke about his upcoming game OD, urging the audience to rewatch the teaser multiple times to understand the game’s unconventional ideas and systems.
OD is a mysterious project that Kojima Productions is working on in collaboration with Xbox Studios and has so far only revealed that it is a horror experience along with some hints that appeared in the Knock teaser earlier this year and it seems that this teaser contained deeper details than players initially noticed.
In a recent interview with Nikkei Xtrend, quoted by GamesRadar+, Kojima explained that OD looks like a traditional horror game at first glance, but the system on which it is based is not ordinary. He added that everything that appears in the game is built inside a game engine, but it represents “a system that has never been used before,” which prompted the team to work on an entirely new medium in cooperation with Microsoft.
Kojima noted that he cannot reveal additional details at the moment, joking that Mr. Phill might be angry with him, referring to Phil Spencer, but he emphasized that the teaser itself carries an important hint, explaining that rewatching it many times may lead players to a deeper understanding of the idea of the project.
Kojima explained that the phrase ” for all players and screamers ” that appears at the end of the teaser is not just a passing phrase, but a big hint at the nature of the OD experience, without explaining what it means directly.
Kojima ‘ s statements reflect his usual style of promoting his work through ambiguity and interpretation, leaving the door open for speculation about what OD will look like and whether it will offer a completely different horror experience than what gamers are used to in the genre.
