During Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live, TT Games announced its new project LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, scheduled for release in 2026. The game promises to be the most ambitious project in the LEGO series to date, showcasing Batman’s highlights in cinema and games to tell the ultimate story of the Dark Knight’s genesis.
According to a leak posted by the LEGO Games News account on Xbox, the in-game city of Gotham will consist of four main islands, including South Island, which is said to be larger than the world of Batman: Arkham Knight, potentially making it the largest explorable Batman city in any game to date.
Rocksteady’s 2015 game Batman: Arkham Knight offered the largest version of Gotham at the time, with the addition of the Batmobile for fast travel. But a decade later, it seems that technological advances are giving LEGO Batman a chance to surpass it in terms of scale and detail.
While the game will only feature 7 playable characters at launch, the developers emphasize that the world of Gotham will be filled with activities and missions, making the experience broader and more diverse than ever before.
With such ambitions, the question remains: will LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight be able to surpass the classic Arkham series that is still beloved today?
