Shift Up, the acclaimed developer behind Stellar Blade, continues to expand its global presence following the success of its latest title, and in a new move that reflects the studio’s future ambitions, Level Infinite, Tencent’s global publishing brand, has announced a comprehensive agreement to publish and develop Shift Up’s next project, currently known as Project Spirits.
This is not the first partnership between the two parties, as they previously collaborated on Goddess of Victory: Nikke, but the new agreement raises the level of cooperation to include global publishing and co-development, reflecting the mutual trust between the two sides.
The upcoming project will be multi-platform, being developed for PC, consoles, and smartphones, powered by Unreal Engine 5, and is being developed in collaboration between Shift Up and Tencent’s Yongxing Interactive team, a group of developers with expertise in anime and ACG games.
This collaboration signals a clear desire to deliver a massive, world-themed experience that is different from Stellar Blade but carries the same high production quality that the team is known for.
The news comes as Stellar Blade is gaining momentum, having recently become the most successful PlayStation PC launch in the history of exclusive releases, and the announcement coincides with Sony’s lawsuit against Tencent over the similarity of one of its games to the character Alloy, to which Tencent responded by saying that fame is not a trademark.
Despite these legal tensions, the Level Infinite and Shift Up partnership seems to be moving steadily toward one goal: Delivering a new global title capable of competing with the biggest names in the industry.
