Although Ubisoft has yet to officially announce an Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake, repeated leaks over the past few years have made it clear that the project is in development. From voice actors to collectible items, there have been plenty of signs that a return to the adventures of pirate Edward Kenway is only a matter of time.
The latest leak came via Jeux Vidéo magazine, which published a video with information from a leaker known for his accurate news about the series in the past. According to the report, the remake will see drastic changes to the story and gameplay, most notably:
- Story: Removing the parts related to the present world, and focusing more on Kenway’s life as a pirate and his naval adventures.
- Gameplay: Moving to an RPG system similar to what we saw in Origins and Shadows, with improved combat and exploration mechanics.
- Release date: The remake is expected to be released in early 2026, but that date could change as development progresses.
However, it’s important to note that this information is still unofficial, meaning it remains a rumor. Considering how popular Black Flag has been since its original release in 2013, returning with an improved version would be a natural and welcome move for fans of the series.
The adoption of a more RPG-like gameplay system may be controversial among gamers, as some argue that the classic cinematic combat of the original is what gave the game its own identity. However, the success of recent experiences like Shadows opens the door for Ubisoft to reinvent the formula to suit the expectations of a new generation.
