The launch of the new Marvel Zombies PvE mode seems to have been the smartest move for the NetEase team as it caused a huge spike in the number of Marvel Rivals players on Steam, marking the highest jump since the start of Season 4.
The game, released in December 2024, has maintained a steady fan base since its launch, but in the last week, the number of players almost doubled after the release of the new mode.
According to SteamDB data, the game was maintaining an average of 75-80,000 active players, but on October 23, the number rose to more than 120,000 concurrent players, nearly doubling from the previous day.
This spike coincided with the launch of Marvel Zombies, a cooperative PvE mode that allows players to battle against waves of zombies in a setting inspired by the comics and Marvel’s new anime series.
The Reddit community has been very receptive to the update, with many players calling it the best since the game’s launch and demanding that it be a permanent part of the experience.
This is what we’ve been waiting for since launch, the mode is a lot of fun and adds a new spirit to the game – Reddit user
The addition of cooperative PvE modes seems to have been one of the most frequent requests from the game’s community, which explains the sudden jump in activity.
Marvel Zombies is currently only available until mid-November as part of the seasonal Halloween event, so it’s best to try it out before it ends. The success of the event proves that Marvel Rivals still has the potential to sustain its community and expand its audience, especially if the team continues to add similar events in the future. Do you want the mode to become a permanent part of the game?
