Mystery over Leon’s appearance in Resident Evil Requiem

From the moment Resident Evil Requiem was first revealed, Leon Kennedy’s name has been at the forefront of discussion among fans of the series, and his presence has become the main focus of attention around the ninth installment as events return to Raccoon City: Will Leon appear in the game? is more pressing than ever.

In a new interview with stevivor, producer Masato Kumazawa talked about the upcoming installment, but his answer about Leon’s future was very diplomatic:

“Except for what Capcom has officially announced, everything else is just conclusions from players. In the age of AI, anyone can create unrealistic images and clips. So please don’t take everything that is posted as fact. Unless Capcom officially announces it, I can’t make any confirmation.

Komatzawa pointed to a recent image showing Leon with an eye patch that was said to be from an add-on or special costume and emphasized that it was fake news.

But the most important sentence here is not what he said, but what he didn’t say. The producer did not state any categorical rejection of Leon’s presence in Resident Evil Requiem, he did not say: Leon is not in the game, but only emphasized that the leaks are fake and that any announcement must come from Capcom, and this type of response is the most common when a studio wants to keep the surprise alive without closing the door completely.

We have seen Capcom do this before, in Summer Game Fest 2025, the company played on the expectations of the audience when it hinted at news of RE9 and then blew the surprise by fully revealing the game at the end of the show, and when we add to this the appearance of Z. Leon within the pre-order page in PlayStation Portugal a few days ago, the indications seem to strongly suggest that the series hero may be part of Requiem, whether as a main character, guest of honor or additional content.

There is still no official, definitive answer, but the deliberate ambiguity of the product and the intensity of the leaks make it highly likely that Leon will appear in Resident Evil Requiem in some way.
